Weist, Francis & Co. ~ s/n
854 Built 10/31/1903 ~ Std gauge ~ 11" x 12" cylinders ~ 32" drivers ~ 45 tons ~ 2 trucks On January 20, 1922, the locomotive derailed on a 600' long, 75' high trestle near Reliance, Oregon. The locomotive fell approximately 70'. Four company employees including company president, Francis M. Weist and one of his sons, ultimately lost their lives and an additional four were injured as a result of the accident. The locomotive was subsequently recovered, repaired, and ultimately served two subsequent owners until it's being scrapped on 11-28-1928. The image was published on page 14 of the March, 1922 issue of the Four L Bulletin a publication of the Loyal Legion of Loggers and Lumbermen (4 L) |
