Takata was a dealer that ordered two identical locomotives for the navy yard.   The build dates for the two (s/n 3160 & 3161)  was the same.   The photo at left does not specify which locomotive s/n is pictured.

The records note it later ran on the company's standard gauge trackage in the area after being regagued.  The company owned another Shay (s/n 576) in the area that also ran with the same road number at some point.

The locomotive operated near Doucette, Texas.  Thompson operated the locomotive in standard gauge.  It had been changed to standard by a previous owner. The company owned another Shay (s/n 269) in the area that also ran with the same road number at some point.  The image appeared on page 110 of the September 26, 1908 edition of American Lumberman.  The printed image was of very poor quality.  It is the only image of this locomotive known to exist.

The owner of the locomotive at the time this photo was made is unknown.  Despite its unusually fresh & crisp lettering, the locomotive's dilapidated condition would indicate it is at it's last or latter owner's.
